Teatro en el Aire is the result of the initiative of a group of actors and actresses from different countries (Argentina, Bulgaria, Chile, Cuba, Spain, France, Holland and Venezuela), led by the creative drive of Lidia Rodríguez.
Teatro en el Aire's artistic project dates back to the year 2001, coinciding with the opening of its creative venue and training centre, La Caravana, and seeks to fuse the use of sensory language in theatre with text-based theatre.
Teatro en el Aire's creative process directly involves the actors and actresses in the final composition of the show; the audience taking part in the show being the other player that comes to complete the company's ongoing research process.
Those who experience the proposals of Teatro en el Aire travel back to their origins: they smell, feel and perceive as if it were for the first time. All this occurs thanks to a combination of penumbra, silence and poetics, textures, scents and flavours offered in each production.
Teatro en el Aire's creations invite the public to step into a sensual, intimate and intuitive world.
In September, 2007, the company became part of the teaching staff of Universidad Popular de Rivas Vaciamadrid, where it teaches theatre. In April 2008, the company closed its venue in Carabanchel and moved its work space to the classroom of the Universidad Popular de Rivas Vaciamadrid, combining the theatre classes and the company’s rehearsals in a single venue.
Since then, the Company has strived to make this place a space for creation, training and theatre research, opening its doors to different artistic groups who are invited to teach their workshops.
For Teatro en el Aire, the Rivas classroom is a space for sharing the imaginary and the insane.
